How do you make a Casamigos Margarita?
A Casamigos Margarita is 1.5 oz Casamigos Blanco, 1 oz freshly squeezed lime juice, 3/4 oz orange liqueur, and 1/2 oz simple syrup, shaken hard with ice and served on the rocks in a salt-rimmed glass. The tequila does the heavy lifting. Casamigos Blanco is clean, citrus-forward, and built for cocktails like this one. Two minutes from shaker to garnish.
Casamigos has the city covered this summer. Billboards on King West, branded patios across the Annex, ad rolls every six minutes on every screen in Toronto. The campaign works because the cocktail does. A well-made Margarita is the easiest crowd-pleaser in the bar canon, and Casamigos Blanco is the version everyone is pointing at right now.
You can drink it at the bar or you can drink it on your couch with the matches on. Our Margarita Kit, Casamigos Blanco option ships across the GTA with the bottle, the orange liqueur, fresh lime juice, simple syrup, sea salt flakes, dehydrated lime wheels for the rim, a fresh lime, and a jigger. Order by 5 PM, set the bar by tomorrow afternoon.
What makes Casamigos Blanco the right tequila for a Margarita?
Casamigos Blanco is unaged. It rests for two months before bottling, picks up no oak, and stays bright. That's the whole point in a Margarita. You want the tequila to lead with the agave and the citrus, not fight a layer of vanilla and char from a barrel. Reposado works if you like a rounder, slightly sweeter take. Añejo is too dark and too dense for the drink. Blanco is the correct call.
The brand's story is well-known at this point. Two friends with a tequila habit started bottling the version they wanted to drink, sold the company for an absurd number a few years later. The juice still tracks. Soft on the nose, smooth on the finish, almost no burn even neat. That softness is what makes the Margarita feel polished instead of rough.
The tequila isn't the whole drink. Fresh lime juice, squeezed within the hour, matters more than any other single decision. Bottled lime juice from the grocery aisle has the personality of damp cardboard. A good orange liqueur over generic triple sec, because the orange flavour is cleaner and the alcohol does more work in the dilution. A small amount of simple syrup to round the edges so the lime never bites first. Sea salt flakes on the rim, not table salt. Texture matters. These are not optional.
The classic Casamigos Margarita recipe
Yield: 1 cocktail
Prep time: 2 minutes
Difficulty: Easy
Glass: Rocks (classic) or coupe (up)
Ingredients
- 1.5 oz Casamigos Blanco tequila
- 1 oz freshly squeezed lime juice
- 3/4 oz orange liqueur
- 1/2 oz simple syrup
- Sea salt flakes, for the rim
- 1 fresh lime wedge, for rimming
- Ice
- Garnish: 1 dehydrated lime wheel
Method
- Cut a fresh lime into 8 wedges. Add the sea salt flakes to a small plate and lightly crush with the bottom of a glass.
- Rub a lime wedge around the rim of a rocks glass, then dip the rim into the crushed salt. One wedge rims about two glasses.
- In a cocktail shaker, add 1.5 oz Casamigos Blanco, 3/4 oz orange liqueur, 1 oz lime juice, and 1/2 oz simple syrup.
- Fill the shaker with ice and shake vigorously for 15 to 20 seconds, until well chilled.
- Strain into the prepared glass over fresh ice.
- Garnish with a dehydrated lime wheel. Serve immediately.
Tip: You can shake two drinks at once. Multiply the ingredients and pour evenly between glasses.
What's in our Margarita Kit (Casamigos Blanco option)
- 750 ml Casamigos Blanco tequila (the bottle the campaign is built on)
- 375 ml orange liqueur
- 473 ml fresh lime juice
- 237 ml small-batch simple syrup, made in Toronto
- 1 fresh lime, for rimming the glass
- 59 g sea salt flakes
- 16 handmade dehydrated lime wheels
- A free jigger
- A printed recipe card with ratios calibrated to the kit
The kit makes 16 drinks. Enough for a small dinner of four people drinking the whole night, or a watch party of eight people having two rounds. Order the Casamigos Blanco version of the Margarita Kit. The 1800 Tequila version is on the same page if you want that route instead.
How to serve Margaritas to a crowd
A Margarita for a group is a rhythm, not a batch. Every drink in the kit is shaken fresh, two at a time, which is exactly how a good bar would run it, and the pre-measured bottles keep the line moving so you're never doing math mid-party. The payoff is that every glass lands cold, bright, and foamy instead of sitting flat in a jug on the table.
Before guests arrive. Cut the fresh lime into wedges, crush the sea salt on a plate, rim your rocks glasses, and stage them on a tray. Set the tequila, orange liqueur, lime juice, and simple syrup on the counter in pouring order with the jigger in front, and your kitchen is a bar station.
During the night. Shake two drinks at once: double the measures, shake hard for 15 to 20 seconds, strain into two prepared glasses over fresh ice, garnish, hand off. A round for four people takes two shakes, and the drinks are better for it. Guests watch their cocktail get made, which is half the show.
For a bigger crowd, order two Margarita Kits (Casamigos Blanco) and hand a trusted friend the second shaker.
Want some heat? The Spicy Margarita
If the watch party crowd is the kind that puts hot sauce on eggs, run the Spicy Margarita Kit with Casamigos Blanco instead. Same tequila, same fresh lime. The twist is a house-made chili syrup, smoked salt for the rim, and a slightly recalibrated ratio that lets the heat build across the back of the throat instead of slamming you up front. The drink reads as Margarita first, heat second.
Each kit ships with a recipe card calibrated to its exact ratio. Follow that card. The shortcut: smoked salt rim, jalapeño slice on top for a visual hint, same shake-and-strain method.
The Toronto-specific stuff
If you're hosting a watch party in the GTA this summer, four things are useful to know.
The matches run deep into July. Watch parties at home and at every patio with a TV are still the main entertainment event of the summer, and the biggest nights are still ahead. Plan the bar for the schedule. Order kits the day before, not the day of.
Lime supply on game days. Grocery stores in dense neighbourhoods (Leslieville, the Annex, King West, Kensington) sell out of fresh limes by noon on big match days. Our kit ships with bottled lime juice plus one fresh lime for the rim. If you're hosting a bigger crowd, grab two or three extra limes for the rim the night before. Limes hold for a week in the fridge.
LCBO cutoffs. Most LCBO locations close at 9 PM, downtown locations are picked over by 4 PM on Saturdays. If you're sourcing the Casamigos bottle yourself, do it before noon. If you're delivering, our cutoff is 5 PM for next-day delivery across the GTA.
Backyard, patio, condo balcony. Margaritas are an outdoor drink and the city has the weather for it from June through September. Build the bar where the screen is. Toronto, Mississauga, Etobicoke, Scarborough, North York, Vaughan, Markham all covered by our next-day kit delivery.
Casamigos Margarita FAQ
Is Casamigos Blanco the best tequila for a Margarita?
It's one of the best in its tier and it's the right style. Blanco unaged tequila keeps the cocktail bright and lets the lime lead. Casamigos Blanco specifically is soft, clean, and works in a Margarita without needing extra sugar to round out a rough edge.
What's the difference between Casamigos Blanco and Reposado in a Margarita?
Blanco is unaged, brighter, and reads as more citrus-forward. Reposado is rested in oak for two to eleven months and brings a softer, slightly sweeter, lightly vanilla note. Either works. Blanco is the classic choice. Reposado makes a rounder drink, more suited to colder weather or food pairing.
What kind of orange liqueur should I use?
A good Curaçao-style orange liqueur. Cointreau is the bartender default, but Grand Marnier and other quality orange liqueurs all work. Our kit ships a quality orange liqueur calibrated to the recipe. Skip generic triple sec from the bottom shelf, it tastes more like orange candy than orange peel.
Why is there simple syrup in this Margarita recipe?
To round the edges. A Margarita with only lime and orange liqueur reads as sharp and dry, especially with bright unaged Blanco. A half ounce of simple syrup softens the lime and lets the tequila come through. Our kit ships with the syrup calibrated to the rest of the ingredients.
Can I make Margaritas ahead for a party?
Do the prep ahead, not the drinks. Rim and stage the glasses, cut the limes, and set the bottles out in pouring order before guests arrive. Then shake each round fresh, two drinks at a time. A shaken Margarita is at its best the minute it's poured, and the kit's pre-measured bottles make each round a two-minute job.
How many Margaritas can I get from one bottle of tequila?
A standard 750 ml bottle yields about 16 Margaritas at the 1.5 oz pour. Our kit is calibrated for exactly that, plus the orange liqueur, lime juice, simple syrup, and salt.
Salt on the rim, yes or no?
Yes. Rub a lime wedge around the rim of the glass, then dip into crushed sea salt flakes. If guests are split on salt, rim half the glass so they can pick whether each sip is salted.
