What makes a good cocktail gift set?
A good cocktail gift set arrives complete. That means the spirit is in the box, the juice is fresh rather than from concentrate, the garnishes are real, and there's a recipe card that makes the person holding it feel capable within about five minutes. If the recipient has to go buy a bottle before they can use your gift, it isn't a gift set, it's homework with a ribbon on it.
We're Thirsty Bartender, a Toronto company making small-batch cocktail kits with the alcohol included, delivered next day across the GTA with a free gift note. This is our complete guide to giving one: what to look for, what to spend, which kit suits which person, and how to time it so it lands fresh. Browse the full range of kits for gifting whenever you're ready.
Why a cocktail kit beats a bottle
A bottle of something nice is a perfectly good gift, and it has one weakness: it asks nothing of the person receiving it. They put it on a shelf, and three months later it's still there, or it quietly became a Tuesday.
A kit is a different proposition. It comes with instructions and an implied invitation, which means it turns into an evening on a specific date, usually with the person they most want to see. That's the part people remember and the part they tell you about afterwards. It also flatters them: following a card and producing a cocktail that tastes like a bar made it is a small win, and small wins are exactly what a good gift delivers.
Nearly every order we've shipped to someone who found us on their own has been a gift. That wasn't the plan. It's just what people do with these.
What to look for in a cocktail gift set
Whether you buy ours or someone else's, five things separate a gift set that gets used from one that gets regifted.
1. Is the alcohol actually included?
Most cocktail kits sold in Canada are mixer kits: syrups, a tin of garnish, maybe a recipe booklet, and a note telling the recipient which bottle to go buy. Read the contents list carefully before you buy, because "cocktail kit" is used loosely. Ours include the spirit, which is the entire reason we exist.
2. Fresh ingredients or shelf-stable ones?
Freshly squeezed juice and small-batch syrups taste like a cocktail. Concentrates and powders taste like a mix. The tell is the expiry window: anything engineered to sit in a warehouse for a year has been built for logistics rather than flavour. A set with fresh juice needs to be used within a couple of weeks, which is a feature, not a flaw, as long as you time the delivery properly.
3. Does it make enough drinks to matter?
A set that makes two cocktails is a novelty. Four is a night in for a couple. Eight or sixteen is a party, and it's the size that turns your gift into an event they invite other people to. Ours come in 4, 8, and 16-drink sizes depending on the cocktail.
4. Are the garnishes real?
Garnish is where corners get cut, because nobody itemizes it on the box. Look for real citrus, proper cherries, and salt or sugar that isn't just sugar. We dehydrate our own citrus wheels and ship Luxardo cherries and Maldon sea salt flakes, because the difference between a good drink and a photographed one is usually the last thing you put on top.
5. Can you control when it arrives?
A gift with fresh ingredients has to land close to the occasion. If the seller can't let you choose a delivery date, you're gambling with someone else's birthday. We deliver next day across the GTA on orders placed before 5 PM, and you can pick the exact date at checkout.
Which kit for which person
The friend who hosts everything
Give them volume and a crowd-pleaser. The Margarita Kit is our most-ordered set for a reason: sixteen drinks, Cointreau, Maldon salt, and freshly squeezed lime. The Mojito Kit does the same job for a summer crowd and starts at $59.
The couple
The French 75 Kit is the one people buy for other people's anniversaries, usually their parents'. Gin, fresh lemon, and bubbles, with your choice of Prosecco at $119 or Moët or Veuve at $199. It's the most elegant thing that will happen at their table that month.
The whisky drinker who says they need nothing
The Old Fashioned Kit ($139) or the Manhattan Kit ($149), both with Angostura, Luxardo cherries, and a choice of Jameson Irish whiskey or Glenfiddich single malt. These are the kits that convert people who claim they don't like cocktails.
The one who makes everything an occasion
The Cherry On Top ($149) is our newest kit, built around a pink gin and designed to look like a celebration before anyone pours. The Cosmopolitan Kit ($169) is the classic done properly.
The dinner-party regular
The Espresso Martini Kit ($149) arrives at the table when dessert would and turns the end of the night into a second act. It ships cold brew from a Toronto roaster and the coffee beans for the garnish.
When you have no idea
A Thirsty Bartender e-Gift Card from $25, delivered instantly, no clock attached. It's also the right answer for an occasion you remembered at 4 PM.

What to spend
Rough ranges that match how people actually shop: $25 to $60 for a colleague, a host gift, or a thank-you, which covers our e-gift cards, the bar tools, and the 4-drink kits. $100 to $150 for a good friend or a family member, which is most of our 8 and 16-drink kits. $150 to $200 for a partner, a couple, or the gift that needs to land properly, which covers the premium bubbles on the French 75 and our sixteen-drink sets.
If you want to add something small to a kit, the cocktail shaker at $25, the multi-level jigger at $12, and the bar spoon at $9 turn a one-night gift into the start of a home bar.
How to time it so it lands fresh
Order by 5 PM and we deliver next day anywhere in the GTA: Toronto, Mississauga, Etobicoke, Scarborough, North York, Vaughan, and Markham. At checkout, add the free gift note and choose the delivery date, so the kit arrives the day of the occasion or the day before if they're planning a night around it.
Because the juice is squeezed fresh and the syrups are made in small batches, plan for the kit to be enjoyed within about two weeks of arrival. Someone 19 or older needs to receive the delivery with valid government-issued ID, which is worth mentioning to the recipient if the gift is a surprise and they're the type to leave the house.
Gifting for a team or a client list
We do corporate and bulk gifting across the GTA: multiple kits, multiple addresses, and volume pricing. If you're sending to a team, a client list, or an office, get in touch through our contact page and tell us how many and when, and we'll sort the logistics.
Cocktail gift set FAQ
What is the best cocktail gift set?
The one that arrives complete. Look for a set that includes the spirit, uses freshly squeezed juice rather than concentrate, makes enough drinks to be an occasion, ships real garnishes, and lets you choose the delivery date. Our most-gifted kits are the Margarita, the French 75, and the Old Fashioned.
Can you send alcohol as a gift in Toronto?
Yes. Thirsty Bartender is licensed by the AGCO to deliver alcohol in Ontario. Order by 5 PM for next-day delivery across the GTA, add a free gift note, and pick your delivery date. Someone 19 or older with valid ID must receive it.
How much should you spend on a cocktail gift set?
$25 to $60 for a colleague or host gift, $100 to $150 for a friend or family member, and $150 to $200 when it needs to land properly. Our kits start at $59 and e-gift cards start at $25.
Do cocktail kits include the alcohol?
Ours do, which is unusual. Most cocktail kits sold in Canada are mixer sets that require the recipient to buy the spirit separately, so check the contents list before buying anywhere.
How long does a cocktail kit last?
Ours are made with freshly squeezed juice and house syrups, so plan to enjoy them within about two weeks. If the timing is uncertain, an e-gift card never expires into a problem.
What if they don't drink much?
The kit still works: every cocktail can be made without the spirit, and the fresh juice, syrup, and garnish carry it on their own. A 4-drink kit is also a gentler size than sixteen.
Can I send cocktail kits to multiple addresses?
Yes, for corporate and bulk orders across the GTA. Get in touch through our contact page with the number of kits and the dates, and we'll handle the rest.
Best served with an occasion you didn't overthink, a recipient who screenshots the gift note, and the text you get the next morning.
